The UK shut one door for overseas care applicants in 2025 — but left another wide open. Since 22 July 2025, the UK no longer recruits care workers (SOC 6135) or senior care workers (SOC 6136) from overseas. Yet healthcare assistants working in NHS settings — nursing auxiliaries and assistants, SOC 6131 — remain eligible for the Health and Care Worker visa with genuine sponsorship. If you’re searching for nhs healthcare assistant jobs for foreigners, this guide gives you what’s real: five live NHS vacancies checked on 4 October 2026 with explicit sponsorship wording, exact Band 3 pay from £25,760, and the official visa rules. Men and women can apply.

Vacancies checked on 4 October 2026 on jobs.nhs.uk, the official NHS recruitment site. Every advert below carries explicit “Certificate of Sponsorship” wording welcoming applicants who need UK sponsorship. Adverts that were onshore-only or silent on sponsorship were excluded.

Why Healthcare Assistant Roles — Not “Care Worker” Roles

This distinction decides everything in 2026. The UK’s overseas care-worker route (SOC 6135/6136) closed on 22 July 2025 and remains closed — any job board still advertising “UK care worker visa sponsorship from abroad” is advertising something legally impossible. Healthcare assistants employed in NHS-regulated settings are a different occupation (SOC 6131, nursing auxiliaries and assistants), and that route is open: the official Health and Care Worker visa occupation list includes 6131 for overseas applicants.

The sponsorship mechanics differ from Australia too: our Australia aged carer guide covers that country’s labour-agreement route, while the UK runs everything through the Health and Care Worker visa. Don’t mix the two up.

5 Live NHS Healthcare Assistant Vacancies With Sponsorship Wording (Checked 4 October 2026)

The Visa: Health and Care Worker Visa (Official Rules)

The route for these roles is the UK’s Health and Care Worker visa. The official rules that matter:

  • Eligible occupation: SOC 6131 — nursing auxiliaries and assistants (the code covering healthcare assistants) is on the eligible list for overseas applicants.
  • Salary: usually at least £25,000, or the “going rate” for the job if higher — checked against the national pay scales for eligible healthcare jobs, listed by NHS pay band. All five vacancies above pay Band 3 (£25,760+), clearing the threshold.
  • English: level B2 on the CEFR scale for new applicants (the B1 transitional rate applies only to people who held the visa before 8 January 2026 and are extending).
  • No health surcharge: you — and your partner or children — do not pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.
  • Criminal record certificates: applicants for entry clearance must present a criminal record certificate from each country lived in for 12+ months in the past 10 years (adult dependants too).

Pay: NHS Band 3 in 2026/27

All five vacancies sit on Agenda for Change Band 3 (2026/27 pay scales, effective 1 April 2026): £25,760 entry rising to £27,476 at the top of the band (pay progression after 2 years). That is the exact range advertised in every vacancy above — not an estimate.

Can Foreigners Apply? The Honest Answer

Yes — for healthcare assistant roles, with the advert’s own sponsorship wording to prove it. All five adverts explicitly welcome applicants who need UK sponsorship. But keep the boundaries straight:

  • These are healthcare assistant roles (SOC 6131) in NHS settings — not “care worker” roles (SOC 6135/6136), which have been closed to overseas recruitment since 22 July 2025. If an advert says “care worker” and promises overseas sponsorship, it is advertising something legally impossible.
  • The NHS Jobs adverts say “Skilled worker sponsorship” — the actual visa you’ll get is the Health and Care Worker visa, which sits on the Skilled Worker route. Same sponsorship, correct name.
  • Sponsorship is per-advert, not per-trust: one trust can sponsor Band 3 HCA roles while refusing sponsorship for other posts (we excluded several onshore-only adverts during research, including Band 3 roles at other trusts). Always read the “Certificate of Sponsorship” section of the specific advert.
  • Band 2 posts are a different story — UKVI rules restrict sponsorship there, so target Band 3 roles like the five above.

How to Apply

  1. Check the advert’s sponsorship section first. Look for the “Certificate of Sponsorship” paragraph welcoming applicants who need sponsorship — like the five above.
  2. Meet the English requirement. B2 level for new applicants — book your test early.
  3. Prepare documents. Criminal record certificates for every country lived in 12+ months over the past 10 years, qualification certificates, and references.
  4. Apply on NHS Jobs. Use the advert links above — never through a middleman. NHS trusts never charge applicants fees.
  5. Watch closing dates. The Liverpool Women’s advert closes 5 October 2026 — days away.

FAQs

Can foreigners apply for NHS healthcare assistant jobs in 2026?
Yes. Healthcare assistants (SOC 6131, nursing auxiliaries and assistants) are eligible for the Health and Care Worker visa, and the five live adverts above explicitly welcome applicants needing UK sponsorship. This is different from “care worker” roles (SOC 6135/6136), closed to overseas recruitment since 22 July 2025.

What is the pay for NHS healthcare assistants in 2026?
Band 3 under Agenda for Change: £25,760 at entry, rising to £27,476 (2026/27 scales, effective 1 April 2026). All five live adverts show exactly this range.

Do I need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge?
No. Health and Care Worker visa holders — and their partners and children — are exempt from the surcharge.

What English level do I need?
B2 on the CEFR scale for new applicants. Only people who already held the visa before 8 January 2026 and are extending can use the lower B1 level.

Can men apply for healthcare assistant jobs?
Yes — men and women can apply. The adverts above are open to all genders.

Is “Skilled worker sponsorship” in the advert the same as the Health and Care Worker visa?
Effectively yes for these roles: the Health and Care Worker visa sits on the Skilled Worker route. The advert’s “Certificate of Sponsorship” wording is what counts — it means the trust will sponsor you.
