Simple guide for seasonal farm work in the UK.
1) What is the job?
Pick or pack fruit, vegetables, or flowers. Physical work. Weather can be hot, cold, or rainy.
2) Visa needed
Seasonal Worker visa (horticulture)
- Work up to 6 months.
- You need a job offer from a licensed sponsor.
- You cannot bring family on this visa.
- Leave the UK when the job ends.
3) Basic requirements
- Age: 18 or older.
- Job offer + CoS: Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed sponsor.
- Money: Savings often needed (about £1,270) unless sponsor supports you.
- Passport: Valid, with blank page(s).
- Health: TB test if your country requires it.
- English: No exam required, but basic English helps.
4) Pay, hours, housing
- Pay: At least the UK National Minimum Wage (some farms pay more or add bonuses).
- Hours: Long days in peak season; depends on weather and crop.
- Accommodation: Often provided; rent may be deducted from wages. Ask the weekly cost.
5) How to apply
- Use a licensed operator or apply to farms directly.
- Get job offer and Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).
- Prepare visa documents (passport, savings, TB test if needed).
- Apply online for the Seasonal Worker visa on GOV.UK.
- Attend biometrics appointment.
- Travel after visa is granted and start date is confirmed.
