Looking for mobile patrol security work in Western Australia?
Perth and other parts of WA continue to advertise security positions, including mobile patrol, roving security, site security and security officer roles.
For overseas applicants, however, there is an important point:
Having security experience overseas does not automatically allow you to work as a mobile patrol security officer in Western Australia.
You need the appropriate WA security licence and lawful Australian work rights.
What Does a Mobile Patrol Security Officer Do?
Mobile patrol officers travel between different properties or sites rather than staying at one location.
Typical duties can include:
– Alarm response
– Property inspections
– Locking and unlocking sites
– Vehicle patrols
– Checking doors, gates and access points
– Responding to security incidents
– CCTV and alarm checks
– Writing incident reports
– Staff or client checks
– Community and commercial patrols
The current national training unit CPPSEC2107 – Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security covers patrol procedures, alarms, property inspections, risk response, communication and reporting.
NPB Security, for example, currently advertises mobile patrol positions in Perth involving site checks, patrols and security responses.
Latest Western Australia Update — September 2026
There are currently mobile-patrol opportunities being advertised around Perth.
A current SEEK search shows dozens of mobile-patrol-related jobs in the Perth area, including security officer and roving security positions.
NPB Security is currently advertising multiple experienced Mobile Patrol Security Officer positions in Perth, with advertised work of approximately 30–46 hours per week, depending on suitability and availability. Weekend night availability is also requested.
This does not mean every position is open to overseas applicants or provides visa sponsorship.
That distinction is extremely important.
The WA Licence You Need
For mobile patrol work, the relevant licence is generally the WA Security Officer licence.
WA Police states that a Security Officer licence authorises a person to watch, guard and protect property.
Importantly, WA Police also states that a Security Monitoring Officer licence does not authorise static or mobile patrols unless the person also holds a Security Officer licence.
So someone who wants to perform mobile patrols should not assume that a CCTV/monitoring licence alone is enough.
WA Security Officer Licence Requirements
According to the current WA Police requirements, a Security Officer licence applicant must:
– Be at least 18 years old
– Complete an approved security training course
– Pass the required written examination
– Provide the required Certificate II in Security Operations
– Hold a current First Aid Certificate
– Meet WA Police licensing and suitability requirements
– Provide required identification and supporting documents
WA Police also conducts criminal-history and suitability checks.
Important 2026 Training Change
This is one of the most important updates for people planning to move to WA for security work.
From 1 January 2026, WA Police says that only training completed with a Registered Training Organisation approved by WA Police and completed in Western Australia will be accepted for licensing purposes.
That means overseas applicants should not assume that a security certificate from another country will automatically qualify them for a WA Security Officer licence.
Your previous experience can still be valuable when applying for employment, but licensing requirements are separate.
Certificate II in Security Operations
The relevant qualification is:
CPP20218 — Certificate II in Security Operations
The qualification can contain units relevant to patrol, access control, security procedures, emergency response, reporting and other security activities.
WA Police requires the applicable Certificate II units for a Security Officer licence.
First Aid
A current First Aid certificate is also required for a WA Security Officer licence application.
Some employers may ask for additional first-aid or emergency-response qualifications depending on the job.
For example, G4S lists CPR and additional first-aid qualifications among the requirements or desirable qualifications for its WA facility security roles.
Police Clearance for Foreign-Born Applicants
Foreign-born applicants need to pay particular attention to police-clearance requirements.
WA Police says a police clearance from the country or countries where you lived may be required if:
– You have not been an Australian resident for the previous five years, or
– You are an Australian resident who spent more than 12 consecutive months outside Australia.
The certificate must meet WA Police requirements, including being a national certificate rather than a local or district certificate.
Driver’s Licence — Very Important for Mobile Patrol
Mobile patrol is different from ordinary static guarding because officers generally need to travel between sites.
A valid driver’s licence is therefore commonly an important employment requirement.
For example, G4S’s current WA facility-security pathway requires candidates to hold a Western Australian driver’s licence, while its Perth/Karratha facility-security work includes vehicle patrols.
Applicants should check whether the employer accepts an overseas licence, an Australian licence or specifically a WA licence.
Other Qualifications Employers May Look For
Depending on the position, employers may look for:
– WA Security Officer licence
– Certificate II in Security Operations
– First Aid
– CPR
– Driver’s licence
– White Card
– Previous security experience
– Good communication skills
– Good written reporting skills
– Smartphone/computer skills
– Police clearance
– Medical assessment
– Drug and alcohol testing
– Ability to work nights
– Weekend availability
NPB Security’s current mobile patrol advertisement, for example, lists a WA security licence, First Aid, White Card and smartphone capability among its requirements.
Men and Women Can Apply
Mobile patrol security is not limited to men.
Men and women can apply when they meet the requirements of the specific employer and the WA licensing rules.
Women may also find opportunities in other security areas such as corporate security, hospitals, retail, universities, control rooms and site security.
MSS Security states that employment is open to applicants with the appropriate skills, qualifications and abilities and specifically highlights efforts to attract more women into the security industry.
Recruitment Sources and Employers to Check
I recommend using the wording “Recruitment Sources and Employers to Check” rather than claiming these are all overseas recruitment agencies.
These are established security employers with current or recent WA recruitment activity.
1. NPB Security Australia
NPB currently advertises mobile patrol security positions in Perth.
Its current mobile patrol advertisement specifically asks for a current WA Security licence, First Aid, White Card, smartphone skills and availability for weekend nights.
NPB also describes mobile patrol work such as alarm response, site checks, community patrols, site lock-ups and staff checks.
2. Wilson Security
Wilson Security provides security services throughout Perth and Western Australia, including:
– Licensed security guards
– Mobile patrols
– CCTV
– Access control
– Alarm monitoring
Its Perth operation covers corporate, retail, logistics, healthcare, government and other environments.
Wilson’s recruitment process checks relevant experience, licences and qualifications and can include criminal-history checks, medical assessments and other screening.
3. MSS Security
MSS Security has mobile patrol services and recruits security personnel across Australia.
Its current careers information says applicants need the appropriate skills, qualifications and abilities for the position.
4. G4S Australia
G4S currently has a WA Security Pathway connected to facility security work in Karratha.
The program can provide training toward Certificate II in Security Operations and support candidates through the WA licensing process.
However, the current pathway specifically requires candidates to live locally in Karratha and hold a WA driver’s licence.
G4S also has WA facility-security roles involving foot and vehicle patrols, access control, CCTV and asset protection.
Therefore, this is a recruitment source to monitor, not proof of an overseas visa-sponsored mobile-patrol vacancy.
What About Foreign Applicants?
This is where applicants need to be extremely careful.
Australia’s Department of Home Affairs states that only Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens holding a Special Category visa have unrestricted work rights.
Other visas can have work conditions.
A Visitor visa or ETA does not allow someone to work in Australia.
Therefore:
Overseas security experience + Certificate II ≠ automatic right to work in Australia.
The applicant still needs an appropriate visa or existing work rights.
Is Visa Sponsorship Available?
Do not assume that a security advertisement mentioning “sponsorship” automatically means an overseas mobile patrol applicant can obtain a visa.
For an employer-sponsored skilled visa such as the Skills in Demand subclass 482, the position and applicant must meet the relevant immigration requirements.
Home Affairs says sponsored positions generally involve an eligible skilled occupation, an approved sponsor and a suitably skilled worker.
So before paying anyone, ask:
Does this exact mobile patrol position sponsor overseas workers?
Not:
Does this company ever sponsor workers?
Those are two very different questions.
Important Warning About Recruitment Agencies
If someone says:
“We have guaranteed mobile patrol jobs in Perth.”
or
“Pay us and we will guarantee your Australian security visa.”
be extremely careful.
Home Affairs states that asking someone to pay money in exchange for a job or visa is against the law, and it warns about arrangements involving payment for visa sponsorship.
If an agency claims to be operating as an employment agent in Western Australia, applicants can check whether it is properly licensed.
WA states that employment agents generally need an employment agent licence when they receive payment for helping people find employment, subject to specific exemptions.
What Should Foreign Applicants Prepare?
Prepare:
– Passport
– Updated CV
– Security employment certificates
– Employment reference letters
– Police clearance
– Security training certificates
– First Aid certificate
– Driver’s licence
– White Card, if required
– CPR certificate
– Other professional licences
– Proof of identity
– Visa/work-right documents
Keep original documents and never send your passport to an unknown recruiter.
Questions to Ask Before Applying
Ask the recruiter or employer:
1. What is the exact Australian employer?
2. Is this a mobile patrol position?
3. Where is the job located?
4. Is the position currently vacant?
5. Does the employer accept applicants outside Australia?
6. Is a WA Security Officer licence required before starting?
7. Does the employer provide training?
8. Is a WA driver’s licence required?
9. Does this exact position provide visa sponsorship?
10. What is the salary and guaranteed number of hours?
11. What shift pattern is required?
12. Is there a written employment contract?
The Bottom Line
Western Australia continues to have security employment opportunities, and current September 2026 listings show mobile patrol and other security roles around Perth.
For mobile patrol work, however, the WA Security Officer licence is a key requirement.
The biggest 2026 licensing update is that security training completed from 1 January 2026 must be through a WA Police-approved RTO and completed in Western Australia to be accepted for WA security licensing.
For foreigners, there is a second major hurdle:
You need lawful Australian work rights.
So the real pathway is not simply:
Security experience → Australia job
It is closer to:
Experience → required WA training/licence → work rights/visa → employer requirements → job
Always verify the specific vacancy, employer, licence requirements and visa pathway before paying anyone.
This article is for general information only. A job advertisement does not guarantee employment, visa sponsorship or security licence approval. Immigration and licensing requirements can change, so applicants should verify the current rules with WA Police, the Australian Department of Home Affairs and the specific employer.
